PetRescue facilitates food for the disadvantaged

Foodbank WA will be one of the organisations to receive a share of more than 40,000 kgs of donated pet food which will be delivered to disadvantaged pet owners and pets in need, thanks to a partnership between animal welfare charity PetRescue, PEDIGREE® and Woolworths.

PEDIGREE’s national ‘Feed a dog in need’ campaign aims to raise $1 million worth of food. It’s encouraging all Woolworths Rewards customers to purchase any PEDIGREE® product and Woolworths and PEDIGREE® have pledged to donate five times the value of the points in food to pets in need.

The first phase of PEDIGREE’s ‘Feed a dog in need’ campaign will see more than $270,000 of pet food distributed across Western Australia – coordinated by PetRescue – to assist pet owners who are struggling to feed their four-legged family members.

Lavine Clough from Foodbank WA says the food donation will make a huge difference to struggling pet owners in the community.

“Pets are family, and for many people in Perth who are suffering a temporary hardship, a bag of donated dog food will really make a difference.

“Many pet owners will often go without food themselves to feed their dog or cat, and these donations will make a big difference in helping people to make ends meet for all of their family members.”

PetRescue’s Food Donation Program Manager, Tarsha Andrews, says the organisation is delighted to be able to support pet owners in caring for their pets, thanks to their valued partner PEDIGREE®.

“To some disadvantage people, these pet food donations could make the difference between them keeping their pet as part of their family, or having to surrender them,” says Mrs Andrews.

“We are extremely grateful to the team at PEDIGREE® for helping us to support pet owners who are doing it tough.”

Foodbank WA received the donation on Monday August 27, and will be distributing the pet food to disadvantaged pet owners from the start of September.

A number of remote SAFE (Saving Animals From Euthanasia) branches will also receive bulk donations, in addition to the Salvation Army in Bunbury and Karratha.
