Greg Hebble – 12 Years of Fighting Hunger

On 30 June we said farewell to Greg Hebble who led Foodbank WA as CEO for 12 years. To acknowledge his contribution to the growth and success to Foodbank WA we reflect on some of the milestones under his leadership.

2010

  • We converted a donation of 500,000kg of Grain from CBH and WA Farmers into oats, flour and wheat biscuits

2011

  • Developed Foodbank WA’s first Strategic Plan
  • Introduced annual breakfast functions to thank and acknowledge our volunteers
  • Re-opened Foodbank Kalgoorlie which was the first purposely built Foodbank in Australia
  • Signed the lease for land at what is now our Centre for Hunger Relief at Perth Airport
  • Signed a 7 year partnership with Perth Airport
  • We fed 12,500 children through our School Breakfast Program
  • Launched Cans for a Cause with the West Coast Eagles

2012

  • We provided 17% more food and groceries than the previous year
  • We opened Foodbank Peel in its new premises
  • We launched Help Feed 1000 (now Give a Feed) with the Rotary Club of Heirisson

2013

  • Saw the commencement of MeatBank to ensure we had a wide variety of protein available for West Aussies in need
  • We thanked and acknowledged 20 individuals and organisations that had supported Foodbank WA since 1994 with a function at Government House
  • Woolworths held its first state wide food collection for Foodbank
  • Finalised financial support for our new Warehouse from the State Government, BHP, Lotterywest and Perth Airport

2014

  • We celebrated 20 years of helping West Aussies
  • We were able to replace our fleet thanks to BHP
  • We launched of our School Fruit Van thanks to Stan Perron & McCusker Charitable Foundations
  • We launched our first Ambassador program
  • We launched the Garden to Plate program in Mandurah

2015

  • We opened the Centre for Hunger Relief at Perth Airport – the first Foodbank Central warehouse and office building in Australia. At 6500sqm this space will allow us to grow long into the future and includes a training and commercial kitchen
  • We piloted our Community Kitchen – the first for Foodbank in Australia
  • We provided breakfast foods to 432 schools through our School Breakfast Program
  • Meatbank continue to grow with the support of The National Lamb Legends
  • We provided 2000 Give a Feed hampers for the first time
  • We won CCI WA Charity of the Year
  • We developed new Superhero Food resources
  • We celebrated turning of the Sod in Geraldton

2016

  • The Community Kitchen produced 40,000 meals
  • Construction of Foodbank Geraldton commenced
  • We added fish to our Meatbank offering
  • 44 apprentice Chefs from Crown made light work 10 tonnes of vegetables that were chopped and frozen
  • BHP supported our School Breakfast Program and Food Sensations® programs in the Pilbara
  • We launched Super Fruity
  • We celebrated 15 years of School Breakfast Program

2017

  • Opened Foodbank Geraldton
  • Developed a new Strategic Plan
  • Added a new truck in Geraldton thanks to Arc Infrastructure (formerly Brookfield Rail)

2018

  • Distributed over 6 million meals for the first time
  • Launched our Let’s Eat storybook with support of Healthway

2019

  • Launched our Mobile and pop up Foodbanks
  • We had amazing success of our Hungry Puff’s Christmas Appeal thanks to support from the Brand Agency
  • Introduction of our Mega Meal Challenge in the Community Kitchen
  • We launched our Meal Makers corporate fundraising event
  • We celebrated 25 years of helping West Aussies and launched the Giving Pantry – 25 year history book

2020

  • We experienced panic buying, empty shelves and increased in demand due to the COVID- 19 pandemic
  • Our nutrition and education programs went virtual
  • We held our first Donation Drive-Thru
  • Launched our new Shaping the Future Strategic Plan 2020-23
  • Our ambassadors Alice Murray, Duc Pham, Damian Martin & Jack Redden stepped up and took us to a whole new level

2021

  • Our Community Kitchen reached a 300,000 meals milestone
  • We distributed hampers to those affected by natural disasters including the Woorooloo Bushfires, Cyclone Seroja and floods in Kalgoorlie and Carnarvon
  • We expanded our Mobile Foodbank fleet to reach even more West Aussies in need
