PRODUCE FOR PEOPLE

Foodbank’s Produce for People Program

Foodbank’s Produce for People program supports farmers in NSW by redirecting produce destined for landfill, to Foodbank, providing food to Australians and improving environmental sustainability.

Each year an unquantifiable amount of fresh produce goes to landfill in Australia. This is mostly because it does not meet the specifications for a commercially acceptable product – it could be too big, too small or have blemishes on its skin. Foodbank receives donations directly from farmers, as well as through the Waste Not Want Not program and ongoing partnership with Sydney Market vendors.

Foodbank NSW & ACT are proud participants of the Carrathool Shire’s Waste Not Want Not program since 2011. Each year this program rescues over a million kilos of fresh produce directly from NSW Riverina farms and delivers this highly nutritional food to disadvantaged Aussies.

We have proudly partnered with Sydney Markets to reduce food waste and to provide an alternative to sending fresh fruit and vegetable to landfill. Foodbank accepts surplus, not to specification or incorrectly labelled product, as long as it’s fit for human consumption.

If you would like more information on how to donate fresh produce to Foodbank, please contact Ben Cox,  Fresh Produce & Sydney Markets Product Development Manager via email.
